Better communication 1
Taken from Strunk and White’s book, the Elements of Style. The book delivers a clear outline to make your communication clear, concise, and direct and here are a few things to consider when creating your message:
- Use active tense. An active tense creates a message that is compelling. The person receiving your message feels it is relevant to them at that moment.
- Be direct. Get to the point. Often the explanations that surround your main message will drown out what you are trying to say.
- Be familiar. Speak directly to your audience by using a tone that is appropriate. This conveys that your are interested in your audience and helps your audience connect to you.
- Keep it short, keep it simple. It will be easier for your audience to digest your message. It is essential to define your message clearly at the beginning.
- Be positive. A positive action statement can be acted on and is more powerful than a negative. A positive statement engages your audience.
